Modena Protocol on Riders Rights
Summary
Signed in 2021 by the Municipality of Modena and local branches of the Italian trade union confederations Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), Italian Confederation of Workers' Trade Unions (CISL), and Italian Labour Union (UIL), this protocol promotes decent and safe working conditions for food delivery riders regardless of employment status. It supports the application of national collective agreements, particularly in logistics sector, emphasises the recognition of riders as employees, and establishes mechanisms for dialogue and institutional monitoring. The protocol also includes provisions on ethical platform conduct, designated rest areas, and public awareness initiatives promoting responsible platform use by businesses and consumers.
